A Celebration of Mud, Music, and Memories!
The National Rice Plantation Festival – locally known as “Ropai Mahotsav” – is one of Nepal’s most iconic and culturally rich events. Held annually on Asar 15, this vibrant festival marks the beginning of the rice planting season across Nepal. It’s famously celebrated as Dahi-Chiura Khane Din, when families and farmers enjoy curd (dahi) and flattened rice (chiura) after a long morning of planting paddy.

In Pokhara, the heart of tourism and natural beauty, this festival is more than just agriculture—it’s an unforgettable cultural experience! Locals and visitors alike gather in the rice fields to plant, sing traditional Asare songs, play with mud, and engage in traditional games like tug-of-war and mud races.
🌍 Global Participation
Every year, the festival sees enthusiastic participation from foreign tourists who enjoy being part of the fun-filled rice planting activities. From mud-sliding to group races in the paddies, these lively experiences bring communities together and make cultural bonds stronger.
