Mahendra Cave

Mahendar cave is located in the northern side of the Pokhara valley It is about 9 and half km away from Lakeside which is close to Kali Khola and is a big limestone cave.  This cave is rare and special to Nepal as this cave is made up from stalagmites and stalactites. Inside you will find the statue of Lord Shiva and a Pujari who worship Lord Shiva on a daily basis. This cave was first found by the local shepard and later on it came on the news as this cave as called “Adhero Bhawan” refers to the Black place. When the news was reached to the then king Mahendra he came and visited the place and it was renamed as Mahendra Cave. The cave corridors are pitch black, with water continuously dripping from above. The cave is made of limestone, which falls to the ground and constantly generates electrical sparks. Because of the darkness, artificial lighting is installed in about half of the accessible cave.
